Saturday, May 17th ~ The Strasburg Mayfest Celebration 2008!
Joe Herbert and Friends will be performing at the newly dedicated Pocket Park and Gazebo, which was built by all the kind folks at Hometown Strasburg. Much thanks to all the folks involved in that effort- the park looks amazingly beautiful, and we can't wait to perform during the annual Mayfest Celebration. Joining me under the gazebo will be Shenandoah Valley musical stalwarts Jacob Rinard and Tim Ambrose, as well as Nick Sheilds, who some of you may recognize from our "Indoor Jamfest 2008" at the Strasburg Theater a few weeks back.
We go on at noon, and play until around 2 pm, at which time we'll make way for the big Mayfest Parade! You should try and make a point to get out here to Strasburg for this weekend long event. Lots to see and do throughout the town!

Indoor Jamfest 2008 a smashing success!
What a scene, what a scene! You had to have been there for Indoor Jamfest 2008, held this past Friday night, April 25th at the Strasburg Theater. We started out just doing a typical soundcheck, but things quickly devolved into an insane frenzy of orchestrated musial madness~! As the various musicans would filter onto the stage, new configurations would assemble and just take it to new levels. After all was said and done, three bands, 2 rappers, 4 or 5 drummers and several guest musicians pulled it all together for an extraordinary jam night at the Strasburg Theater. We were very fortunate to have special guest Damian running the lights for the entire show, and that boy put together a fabulous array of multi colored magic that really set the mood for the evening.
Mountaintop Madness started things off with a thrilling set of old classics that we just don't see anybody play anymore. You know, stuff like "White Room" by Cream, and "Echoes" by Pink Floyd. This band can flat out bust out the jams, and that they did, as the hippie chicks swarmed to the front, hula hoops in full spin.
Next up was my band "Indoe Loop", with original members Ken McChord and Roy Richardson joining up with our guest drummers Alan Lind and Nick Sheilds (Some of you who attended the 420 fest may know Nick from his main band "The Trees"). These guys really added a lot to the mix, with one sitting in on the kit while the other would switch over to percussion and back. Not to be outdone, we had the one and only Tayon Malik on the microphone to spit those killer rhymes at you on such killer numbers as "Lazarus" and "Hippie Crack".
Tayon also joined in on a set by the third band of the evening, "After Destiny", who just tore things up with their loose, free form jamming. After Destiny also had a guest musician on loan from the Church of Love and Music. Derik really put down some amazing sound effects, loops, and samples, when he wasn't up on stage givin' Tayon a run for his money on some hip hop improvisation. I'm telling you, we were burin' down the house at this point, and the only way to take it all home was to bust out the whole damn lot of us for a final 'grand finale' jam. Man, you could always tell when people are having a good time when you look over and see the security guys dancing like nobody's watchin' them. It was that kind of night. Tayon was happy to see so many loose people gettin' down with the hula hoops and bare feet. He was lovin' it!
>On Friday, April 6th, I was the featured musician at the Mt. Jackson Art Group. We had a great turn out, and I got to jam with some good friends including Jacob Rinard and Tim Ambrose. We also talked Jacob's younger brother David into joining us on the drums, and the kid kept a very chill, steady beat through the entire night. Big thanks to all the Rinards for helping out with the sound, set up and just totally cool support. These are good people.

In early February, I had an appearance on radio station WZRV. Host Brad Haynes was a very interesting and amazing fellow, with a slew of stories about his life travelling, writing, singing and performing all over the world. The show featured 5 songs of mine, and we did like, 3 segments on the air. Very cool experience. Send me an email if you'd like a copy of the show.

~Lazarus chosen for Compilation CD to fight drunk driving~ I now have in my possession, the long anticipated "Ground Control" CD compilation, featuring DC area artists who've made a committment to help stop teens from driving while intoxicated. If you'd like to purchase this fine CD, which features that bangin' version of LAZARUS, just get in touch with me and I'll make sure to send one out.
Illumina Records is involved in the project, as well as a bunch of sponsors, all dedicated to a common cause: to prevent our kids from getting fucked up and smashing their cars and wreaking havoc, death and destruction all over the place.

Live Interview on WSVG *In October of 2006, I did an interview on Radio Station WSVG, located in Mount Jackson, VA. The "Live at Lunch" show runs from 12:30 pm until around 1:30. The show featured songs from my upcoming CD "The Route 11 Corridor, as well as a few live tunes. It was a lot of fun, and they let me have a CD of the show, which I've put on an 'assorted interviews compilation' disc.
