cities melissa was a bi girl with dark eyes and dark hair living next to the college farms it really was a drag just to talk to her as she'd ramble on while rubbing her arms she'd come to the city every thursday night looking for a sac and a lover to make her forget about what's waiting back home she hopes that no one spoils her cover she thought that she got smarter when she moved to city such a night life waited for her she found a good connection and it scared her just enough to make it more exciting when she was there in a back street pad, with the shades drawn tight she was drawn to the Bohemian faction life in new haven didn't suit her too well she needed just a little more action people think they're smart when they move to the city with attitude providing the setting but it's hard to find a trustworthy friend among the evils you have no way to know what you're getting people think they're smarter when they move to the city like they know what they're talking about but i just think they're jaded, with not much to say and not nearly enough sense to get out so melissa acted different when she came back from the city when she first got home i noticed the way that people who were closest to her seemed to come last and only she knew what was O.K. with a ring in her nose and some new doc martens and it's out on the street to pay the bills but she's pushing the needle and was caught with possession and the rehab won't provide her with pills people thing they're smarter when they move into the city like they know what they're talking about but i just think they're jaded with nothing to say and not nearly enough sense to get out yeah, people think they're smart when they move to the city acting like they're better than us but melissa learned the hard way, she's back in town as another girl is boarding the bus..... words and music by joe herbert, copyright summer, 1993 |
